First Aid for Therapists (VTQ)

This course is designed specifically for professionals working in therapy, wellness and treatment environments who may need to respond to medical emergencies during client sessions. It provides essential first aid knowledge and practical skills relevant to clinical, therapeutic and hands-on practice settings. The course is delivered over one day with a combination of theory and practical participation and is CPD certified.

1 day course (7 guided learning hours).
Certification provided on successful completion.

This course will enable the student to:

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider within a therapy or wellness environment
  • Be able to assess an incident, ensure scene safety and carry out a primary survey
  • Provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty, including placing them in the recovery position
  • Administer CPR and use an AED (defibrillator) correctly
  • Recognise and respond to cardiac arrest, heart attack and stroke
  • Provide first aid to a casualty who is choking (conscious and unconscious)
  • Control external bleeding and manage shock
  • Provide first aid for burns, scalds, fractures, eye injuries and spinal injuries
  • Recognise and respond to common medical emergencies including asthma, seizures, allergic reactions and diabetic emergencies
  • Assess the seriousness of injury or illness and take appropriate action, including when to call emergency services
  • Maintain good hygiene, use protective barriers correctly and reduce the risk of infection during first aid

This qualification is suitable for therapists, massage therapists, sports therapists, holistic practitioners, beauty therapists and other professionals working in treatment-based environments.

Course delivery

This course is taught over 1 day and includes both practical and theoretical participation.

Total Qualification Time (TQT): 9

There are no formal entry requirements, however learners should have a basic level of literacy and numeracy and be aged 14 years or above.

Successful learners can progress to other qualifications such as:

  • Level 3 First Aid at Work (VTQ)

Certification

On successful completion of the course, learners will receive a ProTrainings certificate along with a CPD Certified statement. Online learner access includes a free student manual, refresher resources and supporting documentation.
